Meet the Team Behind Durham Veterinary Clinic

Durham Veterinary Clinic is proud to provide a team of caring individuals to help the residents and pets around Bowmanville, Ontario. To learn more about our team, take a look at the following bios:

Dr. Robert McCleary

DR. ROBERT MCCLEARY

Dr. Robert McCleary graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph in 1994. He was raised on a farm near Campbellford, Ontario. From a young age, Robert has always had a love of animals. He purchased our clinic from Dr. Dan in March 2018. He has worked in emergency medicine for over 20 years, and he owned a practice in Scarborough for 13 years. Robert has a special interest in surgery and general medicine. He lives in Ajax with his wife and two kids. In his spare time, when he is not working part-time at the Animal Emergency Clinic of Durham Region, he likes fishing, and being kept updated by his two kids who are attending university.

TANYA OFFICE MANAGER

Tanya joined our clinic in October 2012. She has been working in vet clinics for the past 15 years. Tanya is an integral part of Durham Veterinary Clinic. She works extremely hard behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly. Her main interests in veterinary medicine are behavior and orthopedic cases. Tanya's pets include Gambit the French Bulldog, and Rupert the red-eared slider. In her spare time, she enjoys time in the garden, tending to her indoor plant collections, and binge-watching any murder/mystery documentaries.

DR. LAUREN HEMBRUFF

LAUREN RVT

Lauren joined us in 2020. Lauren is a Registered Veterinary Technician who graduated from Seneca College in April 2014. Her favorite part of veterinary medicine is diagnostics. She loves watching the puzzle pieces come together to determine how to best care for pets. She also enjoys educating owners on preventative care measures. When she’s not caring for your pet, Lauren can be found hanging out with her Jack Russell Terrier, Toby, and her two cats, Theo and Paul.

TY RVT

Ty joined us in early 2023 as a Registered Veterinary Technician. He graduated from Georgian College, and has been working for the past 10 years, primarily in ER. He believes strongly in Fear Free handling and uses that when he is working with our patients. When not working, he spends time with his 6 dogs competing in disc dogs and performing with the Super Dogs.

PAMELA VT

Pam joined us in 2021 as a Veterinary Technician. As a kid Pam always wanted to be a human nurse, then she found out that you can be an animal nurse. She took the veterinary technician course at Sheridan college in 2012. She has worked in shelter medicine, emergency medicine and general practice. Pam shares her home with her goofball lab/shepherd mix Casper, a cat named Jerk Face, and a bearded dragon named Solo. When not working she can be seen on a baseball diamond, ski hill or listening to her vinyl collection with her hubby.

JEN VA

Jen joined us in 2021 as a Veterinary Assistant. She graduated the veterinary assistant program at St Lawrence College in Kingston in 2014. Jen is very busy assisting with appointments, surgery, answering phones, and stocking inventory, basically keeping the clinic in tip top shape. Every clinic needs a Jen, she does not stop. When not working Jen loves camping, walking her rescue dog Mia, and hanging out with friends and family.

BROOKE VA

Brooke joined us in 2021, she is one of our Veterinary Assistants. Brooke completed her veterinary assistant program in 2014 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Brooke assists in appointments, helps stock, and cleans the clinic. When not working, she is a busy mum to two daughters, two dogs, and a grand mum to two grandkids. She loves spending time with her grandkids, dogs and listening to audio books.

SUSAN CCR

Sue joined us in the spring of 2023, she is our Client Care Representative. She is one of the friendly faces that greets you when you come in. She answers the phones and books the appointments. Sue comes from working in emergency for over 20 years. She brings a ton of experience, patience of a saint, and is funny as heck! When not working, Sue loves spending time with her family, friends, and two cats Mr Socks and Tony, who is a retired blood donor cat. She is also an avid golfer and gardener.
