Come to Us for a Caring Spay & Neuter Clinic

NEED TO SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PET?

At Durham Veterinary Clinic, we highly recommend that you get your puppy or kitten spayed or neutered when they are around six months of age. This is especially important for female pets as ideally we should spay them prior to their first heat cycle.

Before we perform our spaying or neutering procedure, we will recommend pre-anaesthetic bloodwork. Analyzing your pet’s bloodwork will enable us to make sure that the internal organs are functioning properly and determine whether or not your pet has an underlying problem. In turn, we are then able to tailor our anaesthetic protocol and surgical procedure to your pet’s individual needs.

FEEL AT EASE WITH OUR SURGERY PROCESS

For any surgery, Durham Veterinary Clinic likes to provide all owners with an understanding of the process. First thing in the morning of your pet’s surgery, your pet will be admitted to the hospital, where qualified, assigned registered veterinary technicians will greet the two of you. They will help get your pet settled in one of our hospital suites. Then, once your pet is nice and settled, Dr. McCleary will perform a pre-anaesthetic exam and prepare your pet for surgery.

Prior to the start of your pet’s anaesthetic for surgery, they will be placed on intravenous fluids. And throughout their surgery, your pet and their body temperature, blood pressure, oxygen saturation in the bloodstream, anaesthetic depth, and pain control will remain monitored by a registered veterinary technician. The technician will make sure your pet feels comfortable for the entirety of their stay at Durham Veterinary Clinic. This includes administering pain medication throughout the day.

At the end of the surgery procedure, when your pet is ready to come back home to you, we will make sure they have pain medication for you to give to them at home.

Have questions about our surgery process or your pet and anaesthesia? Don’t hesitate to call us today. We will do our best to assist you.
